10 Reasons To Join The Lemon Road Community

Lemon Road Elementary School is a very special place! We are committed to fostering a community of learners in which students, staff, and parents will grow and learn together while striving for excellence. We celebrate the uniqueness of the individual and value the family as an integral part of a student’s academic success. Below are 10 reasons why Lemon Road is a great place to learn and work.

Innovative Learning Approaches

Project-based learning, where students solve real-world problems just as scientists do, is built into instruction for all students. Fourth through sixth graders create Portrait of a Graduate portfolios with presentations of their learning. All of our classrooms are equipped with a mounted LCD projector, interactive white boards, and a 3D printer. Each learning space offers flexible seating options to promote student movement and choice.

Strong Community Spirit

Our school has a vibrant community where families, teachers, and staff collaborate to create a welcoming atmosphere that fosters strong relationships. From our Welcome Back BBQ to our annual Veterans Day celebration to Freaky Fridays, there are plenty of opportunities to make connections and enjoy being part of the Lemon Road family.

High Academic Achievement

Lemon Road has a track record of high academic performance, often reflected in standardized test scores and overall student achievement. We are ranked in the top 20% of public schools in Virginia, with 77% of students proficient in math and 83% proficient in reading, both significantly higher than the state averages.

Diverse Curriculum

Lemon Road offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes not only core subjects but also arts, music, and physical education, to address students’ physical, emotional, social, and creative development. We are a Level IV Full-Time Advanced Academics Center. Our outdoor education and STEAM program encourage hands-on learning by combining science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math with real-world exploration. Students may showcase their artwork in the Marshall Pyramid Art Show and participate in the Annual Evening of the Arts, where student art, chorus, band, and strings programs are featured.

Dedicated Faculty

We are very fortunate to have dedicated, experienced teachers who are passionate about fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. Their commitment is evidenced by the strong relationships they build with students and families, ensuring that every child feels appreciated and is able to reach their greatest potential.

Meaningful Family Engagement

Lemon Road encourages parental engagement through events, volunteer opportunities, and an active PTA. Each grade participates in quarterly family engagement events during the school day. Our PTA hosts monthly events including an Ice Cream Social, Movie Nights, and Bedtime Stories for Kindergartners.

Commitment to Inclusivity

We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive environment where every child’s individuality is respected and celebrated, promoting a culture of acceptance.
