Hi! I’m Avery Straw, Lemon Road Elementary’s Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART). I work with all students on Critical and Creative Thinking skills, pull small groups, consult with classroom teachers and teams, and support parents in understanding and navigating the AAP referral process. I’m here full-time this year! This is my 4th year at Lemon Road and my 18th in a classroom of some sort.

I grew up in Southern California and moved to Virginia after high school graduation. I attended the University of Maryland - go Terps! - and Marymount University for my master's degree. I have my gifted certification from UVA. My husband, Josh, and two kids, Ellie (12th grade) and Sam (10th grade) live in Reston with our dog, Albus. I love to travel, read and be outside.
